Are your candles safe?

We want your home to be a toxin-free zone, which is why we're conscious of our ingredients. Every candle is made without parabens, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic dyes, and is always cruelty free.

What are your candles made of?

Our candles are hand-crafted and hand-poured (no machines here) in small batches with a premium-grade coconut wax sustainably and ethically sourced in the USA. We also use natural cotton wicks, and pure, non-toxic scents infused with essential oils which are free of any phthalates, dyes and irritants. Together, these elements produce a luxuriously long lasting and clean burn, and they are 100% cruelty-free.

Why coconut wax?

Most candles are made from paraffin wax, which is derived from petroleum and creates highly toxic benzene and toluene when burned (both are known carcinogens). In fact, the toxins released from paraffin candles are comparable to those found in diesel fuel fumes. Our wax is premium-grade and derived from pure, natural coconuts. Not only are coconut wax candles made from a renewable, biodegradable, and carbon neutral resource, they also burn cleanly and for longer periods of time. We source our coconut wax from a local U.S. based farm.

Why cotton wicks?

Many candles have wicks that contain heavy metals, such as lead. A candle with a lead-core wick releases five times the amount of lead considered hazardous to our health and has been linked to health issues. Our wicks are made with 100% pure + natural cotton. 

Why pure fragrance?

The National Academy of Sciences estimates that roughly 90% of chemicals used in synthetic fragrances are derived from petroleum and other harmful components, which have been linked to a variety of health issues. Our fragrances are pure and naturally free of any harsh chemical derivatives such as phthalates.

How strong are the scents?

We spent a lot of time experimenting and tweaking our formulation in order to get the strength just right. Overall, we prefer fragrance notes that are more subtle in character and avoid scents that may overpower. Feel like we went too strong or too weak? How do I burn my candles safely?
  1. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep lit candle in sight at all times!
  2. Never burn a candle on or near anything that might catch fire, like loose papers, fabric, bedding, books, drapes, etc. Play it safe and give your candle a nice clear area to sit on.
  3. Keep lit candles away from drafts--open windows, air conditioners, vents, fans, etc.
  4. Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.
  5. Extinguish the flame if it becomes too high or flickers repeatedly. Trim the wick and check for drafts before re-lighting.
  6. If there is any chance you might doze off to sleep, blow out your candle immediately!
  7. If you’ve created a large wax pool during your burn, blow it out gently to avoid wax splattering - or use our fancy wick dipper to put it out smoke-free!
What are your tips for the perfect burn?
  1. LET IT BURN: Make sure your first light burns long enough to liquefy the entire top layer of wax. Otherwise, you’ll be left with a “memory ring,” which causes the wax to tunnel rather than melt evenly.
  2. TRIM THE WICK: Wicks are happiest when at a very short (¼ inch) height. After your first burn, use your wick trimmer to trim the wick to the right length, ensuring a steady, smoke-free flame.
  3. KNOW WHEN TO BLOW IT OUT: We recommend burning for no more than four hours at a time. And, when you get towards the end don’t burn all the way down: swap your candle for a new one when ½ inch of wax remains.

    When will my order ship?

    Your order will typically ship within 3-5 days of purchase date. Orders placed on holidays or weekends will be processed the following business day. If you would like to expedite your order, please email hello@luminescentcandles.com and we will provide you with available options, or simply select the expedited shipping option at checkout. 

    What is your return/exchange policy?

    We would be happy to coordinate an exchange within 14 days of the original purchase date. Please note that used candles are not eligible for exchange. Candles must include the original packaging and customer is responsible for return and reship costs.
